Davenports Musik is a small, highly specialised company based in Lindlar, in the neighborhood of Köln/Germany. We deal with Hammond organs and Leslie tone cabinets. That, and nothing else. Our primary occupation is this; we acquire Hammonds and Leslies in as good condition as we can find, and add them to our stock. Customers looking for a renovated instrument either order by phone or come to our workshop and choose from the stock. At a time suitable for both the customer's financial situation and our own working schedule, we commence renovation work. ABC models take us between 5-6 weeks to complete, whilst NGR versions take 2-3 weeks longer. [ABC - a collective abbreviation for models A-100, B-3, C-3, etc.. NGR - New Generation Renovations, a new form of exceedingly thorough and high quality renovation.] Because of the detailed way in which we work, we prefer to supply both organ and Leslie together. Much effort is put into the interplay between the two.

Our secondary occupation is renovation and repair of Hammonds and Leslies belonging to customers. Due to the noticeable decline in health of Hammonds and Leslies over the last few years, the demand for this kind of work has risen sharply. We are diverting resources to cope with this, and can see a day when our primary and secondary occupations switch places. As yet, we are not entirely accustomed to this kind of work, since, to a degree, our work must take account of the customer's wishes and financial limitations. These constraints are not present when we renovate our own organs, and for this reason, our own renovated instruments will always be superior. Nor have we found a way to give accurate estimates; only when work is completed do we know how much work was necessary on a customer's organ, and what the cost will be. Generally, the customer's organ or Leslie is in poorer condition than he realised, with new (or forgotten) faults arising as work progresses. If this sounds a little worrying, then please be reassured that we have YOUR interests at heart. It is of absolutely fundamental importance, lying right at the core of our professional philosophy, that the decisions governing our course of action are taken in your best interest. The reason is simple. If we do not, who else will?! There are two common consequences of this way of working; (a) the bill tends to be somewhat larger than the customer hoped, and (b) he is, however, astounded at the improvement to his organ, and the bill is soon forgotten! One of the unfading rewards of this profession is to see the astonishment of a customer who starts to play his newly renovated Hammond and Leslie for the first time. As he listens to the beautiful sounds emerging from the tone cabinet, he has probably only a vague awareness of the great amount of work that is responsible for that sound. But what all that work has given him is a truly superb musical instrument, which will provide reliable operation and musical pleasure for many, many years to come...

We are always happy to show visitors around our facility (although we do appreciate a phone call beforehand), but if you live too far away to visit us, then we would like to take this opportunity of inviting you to a pictorial conducted tour of the workshop together with an informal commentary. If you would like to come along, and immerse yourself in a world entirely devoted to Hammond and Leslie, please click here. Workshop Tour.
